Twilight

After a really long Saturday, we just couldn't face going out. So we had dinner in our PJs and kicked off our mini-marathon with Twilight. Admittedly, we thought the film would be a teeny-bopper kind of flick; a movie that appeals mostly to the throngs of tweens who idolize Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen). We were way off! It was an excellent vampire movie!

Narrated by its lead character, Bella, the story of an introverted seventeen-year old starts in sunny Phoenix (a vampire's worst nightmare) and quickly moves to the overcast and rainy Northern Washington town of Forks. Shot in a a cold light that emphasizes whites, purples and blues, the cinematography itself is mysterious and ominous. And just like the weather, everything else is tense. Recently reunited, Bella tried to build a relationship with her father, make new friends at school and reconnect with Jason, a childhood friend. She encounters and is transfixed by Edward Cullen, who interacts exclusively with his adopted brother and sisters. And it's not hard to see why she likes him so much. He's totally dreamy.

Although Edward is restrained and he reveals little about himself initially, he and Bella eventually go steady. Edward and his family are welcoming to Bella, and she learns about modern-day vampirism and the Cullen family's version of vegetarianism, which means animal blood only.

Meanwhile, a pack of rogue vampires threatens the community. Bella's father, the chief of police, continues to investigate local killings, which are supposedly by animals. But the Cullens and Bella are more suspicious. When the aggression of James, a fierce hunter and tracker encounters Bella, she becomes the target, and a vicious chase begins.

Overall, this film is amazing! The ability of its actors to portray realistic teenagers cannot be overlooked. The leads, who were relatively unknown until Twilight, have incredible chemistry and their love story is epic! Who wouldn't want Robert Pattinson as a hero?
