Having just recently watched Hot Fuzz, Ginny and I were pleasantly surprised to find Run, Fatboy, Run in our mailbox as the most recent delivery from Zip.ca.Not Just More of the Same
We were both expecting another Simon Pegg satirical instalment, and were glad to note that this movie is unique in its own right. Pegg's character Dennis Doyle is indeed a bit quirky (there's a scene where he throws sticks at joggers from the safety of the boughs of a tree), but the movie as a whole is a heartwarming romantic comedy that further enhanced by Hank Azaria, who always brings something special to the set.
Storyline
In accordance with its title, this movie is about an out-of-shape security guard who vows to run a marathon to win back the heart of his lady love, Libby (Thandie Newton) after he finds out that her new boyfriend, Whit (Hank Azaria) is a runner. His training routine is hilarious, the tangential interest of the secondary characters with the race is well-played, and the film as a whole comes as very genuine.
Timing
The summer of 2009 is coming to a close, and the pickings are slim in the theaters right now -- Run, Fatboy, Run is a solid comedy with some classic British humour, and is worth checking out. See it!
